Empress Fragrance under Fire

Sean “Diddy” Combs is being taken to court over the trademark of the Empress fragrance name.

Empress Haircare Products is suing Sean “Diddy” Combs over the trademark of the name Empress, a perfume from created by the Sean John Clothing Company. Empress Haircare Products filed a lawsuit on January 10 in the United States District Court, Southern District of New York, according to the lawsuit documents, available on allhiphop.com. The complaint includesinfringement of a federally registered trademark and unfair competition. Empress Haircare claims that representatives for Sean John attempted to obtain a trademark for the name Empress and also Empress Sean John, even though they knew that an existing trademark had been granted to Empress Haircare Products. Despite the legal wrangling surrounding the name, the lawsuit claims that the “Empress Sean John Perfume and Lotion” was released and marketed to the same demographic as the Empress Haircare line of products.
